Forest of the Bengal Tiger

Forest of the Bengal tigers

In the southwestern part of Bangladesh lies another inescapable destination the Sundarbans, the single largest mangrove forest in the world. It has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site. This UNESCO world heritage site is unique, yet for another reason. It is the habitat of the world’s biggest cat, the Royal Bengal Tiger. You may not always have a chance to meet the tiger, but you can be sure of one thing; the king of the jungle is always keeping an eye on you.

Apart from the tigers, the forest treasures different species of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Dwellers around the Sundarbans, live by age-old traditions of wild-honey collection, fishing with otters, etc. Honey collectors (Mawalis) can take you on an adventurous trip deep inside the forest. And yes, there is Bonbibi, the forest goddess protecting the forest and everyone from all evils.

The annual fair of Raash Purnima in the Dubla Island is yet another attraction.

A trip to the Sundarbans by boat, enjoying the experiences with your friends, is surely the best thing to do in Bangladesh.
